I'm afraid not. TVShows downloads the episodes from the most popular The Pirate Bay uploaders (eg EZTV) because they download faster and usually have a good quality, but it can't "see" the file extension, just the title. And since the scene agreed to use .mp4 as the new standard, most shows from those popular users are now uploaded in .mp4. Some less popular shows are still released in .avi, but I guess they will eventually switch to .mp4.
If you want .avi files, you will have to find TPB users that still use that format for your favorite shows, and add them as a custom show instead of subscribing from the preset list. We explained how to do that in our blog (also in Spanish).
