Doubles since last update
Ever since the last update, tvshows has been downloading doubles
!
Not everything and not everyday, but once every 2 days a couple of
sitcom doubles are being downloaded...
Anybody else with the same problem ?
BTW tvshows runs under SL on a i7 MBP.

Hi all,
Demetre, as far as we are concerned, the issue is "solved" but "monitored" to see if you guys experience it again. So if you are still experiencing duplicates, please send us the log again so we can take a look at it. If it happens with particular shows, please unsubscribe and subscribe again to see if this solves the issue.
iceman600, as I told you before, it seems that you're not using preset list subscriptions... the two 5x04 Flashpoint episodes are actually different torrents, with custom subscriptions TVShows would download both (please read my first reply on this thread on why).
emet, thanks for reporting! I just saw your update (we don't get notified when comments are edited :( ), let's hope this week Downton Abbey will get downloaded once ;)

Sorry to report that Hunted Episode 2 downloaded twice, nearly two days apart. I used the preset subscription.
In my RSS reader, SD showed up at 9:32pm on 10/11 and downloaded at 9:49pm. The HD showed up at 11:13pm on 10/12 but did not start downloading until 5:19pm on 10/13.
I'm gutted. I really thought things were solved. Any new ideas Cristina?
Log is attached
I have 3 active shows right now. Hunted, The Paradise and Downton Abbey, all using preset subscriptions and they're downloading doubles at random intervals. Sometimes the HD shows up the next day, other times a day and a half later.

Hi emet,
I've looked through your log and I don't understand why this happened, the two downloads are not even 18 hours apart (which is the default timeout for SD to HD or vice versa).
Please check the next episode of Downton Abbey, since you "reset" the subscription, if it doesn't get downloaded twice please refresh the list and subscribe again to the other shows... if it still gets downloaded twice, report it and I'll assign this to the developer queue.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience!!!

I haven't had an double download of Downton yet, that's a good sign. I've re-added all shows from the presets.
Thank you for your help.

Thanks for reporting. Let's hope it's solved then.

Still having duplicates as of this morning. About 10 shows re-downloaded in HD. I pay per GB for my usage so its costing me alot. I unsubscribed and re subscribed to the shows that it happened to, so we will see if that fixes it. I have been using preset shows all along though.

Hi,
I've also recently started getting doubles (both in HD) of Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, The Office (US) and The Big Bang Theory. I've attached the log. Thankfully my data is not limited.

I had a similar experience with everything downloading twice. Then it appeared to have resolved itself. Out of the blue, everything started stalling. I'd choose to remove all files and restart the app then they would all reappear, don't know from where. Now... absolutely nothing is happening. Not a single file has downloaded on its own for a few days .
I just bought a new Mac with OS X 10.8.x. I use uTorrent, as I have for years without any problems. I migrated all my apps including TVShows.
This is VERY frustrating!!

Just to add fuel to the fire:
I too am getting double downloads on most of my subscribed shows. I, too, have unsubscribed and subscribed again to no avail.
Fortunately, I have unlimited internet access and don't pay by downloaded data. But it is frustrating to have to keep my eye on things and delete shows on Transmission that are doing a double download.
I am running the latest version on TVShows on the latest version of Mountain Lion.
I will say, in defence of the wonderful developers of TVShows, that I consider having to keep my finger on the delete key a small price to pay for the convenience of the program.
I have also thought about the problem and don't know how the program is engineered but think that it must be difficult to have a way that the program knows if you have downloaded one episode or another as the files have different names.

Hi all,
First of all, TVShows does know if it has downloaded an episode. If it downloads an episode twice, it's due to a bug or something else malfunctioning.
Second, TPB moved to the cloud this week, which caused the links for their torrent files to break... so unless you had magnets activated in TVShows, it probably didn't download anything for the past few days... until today, when it seems their torrents have "reappeared".
Third, only if we see the log we can discover why are the double downloads happening, so I'm sorry if you're having double downloads, but if you don't attach the log there's nothing we can do. From what I see in Craig's log, TVShows made a lot of attempts to download torrent files during this week, all of which failed because of TPB broken links. Then, when the links were fixed, it downloaded everything in the feeds. But this is "normal". I already explained that when TVShows doesn't find the preferred version of an episode, after a timeout it downloads everything it has for that episode. And TPB broken links "forced" that timeout.

Mr Gomez, though I agree that a log file may be helpful in diagnosing this issues, the fact that so many have reported the the thing would seem to indicated a weakness in the App.
We all know that for every person that physically complains there is likely another 100 that don't.
With TPB closing up shop, will we need to start creating our own feeds for every show or will TVShows establish new routing through ettv and the likes?
FYI, every show that did not download in the past week all did so last night, in doubles... What a mess.

Why are you all being so aggressive. You get this app for free , you get support for free. It's fine to ask for a log, don't take exception to that! At worst you can stop using the app; you haven't paid for it; you've no right to it. Try and be a bit more grateful, and respectful.
I'm really thankful for the help, and my getting doubles seems to have stopped.

Hi tvjunky_66,
You don't need to address me by my surname ;)
If I am experiencing the issue I don't need anyone's log because I can diagnose it on my own system. But if I'm not, the only way I can get to know what's happening is from a log. And if I'm not experiencing it, it also means that the issue does not affect TVShows entirely, only certain settings or circumstances. In this case, the issue affects people who don't use magnets and hadn't switched to them after the recent events with TPB. I got to that conclusion after seeing Craig's log, so it's not just helpful, it's crucial.
We have been using our own feeds for more than a year now, but the fact is that we don't produce the content, so we have to rely on third party sources. And we didn't wait for TPB to "close up shop" to start looking for other sources, in fact we started using EZTV as well a couple of months ago. But it is not a piece of cake.
"FYI, every show that did not download in the past week all did so last night, in doubles... What a mess."
That's exactly what I tried to explain in my last post.

Hi Cristina,
Thanks for the concise and in-depth explanation. This explains a lot.
The doubles seem to have been a once off, in line with your explanation.
Thanks also for a great product and its continued support.
I'll definitely continue to be recommending TVShows to all of my friends.
Craig

I just managed to stop the HD torrent for Downton Abbey (good thing I got a late start this morning). I've attached the log.
I'm still a bit unclear about the effect of the PirateBay move to the cloud has on tvshows.
Should I just refresh the show list by clicking "Add Show" and then click the refresh arrow, let it update and then click cancel? or
Should I delete all my shows and add them back?
Should I check the magnet link box in the preferences? Pirate Bay isn't blocked for me.
Thanks.

Hi emet,
We don't really know what TPB's plans are, I'm afraid we have the same information you have. Magnets will almost always work, even if TPB is down, even if their torrent links are broken, even if your ISP is blocking the site... at this point, I would only recommend you to stick with torrent files if you're using the "save each show in its own folder" feature, because it's not compatible with magnets. Otherwise, magnets are a lot more robust, I have been using them for months and I realized the broken links issue because of user reports, since my TVShows had continued to download the shows normally.
Refreshing the list like you explain in point #1 should be enough. If you already deleted a subscription (you did that with Downton Abbey, right?) it should also be enough to rule out a corrupted subscription.
I've seen the log, it's really strange... I will check with the developer. Can you also send us these files?
Thank you for you patience and sorry for all the inconveniences.
p.s. Agggggg and Craig, thank you so much for being so supportive, we really appreciate it ;)

Hello Cristina,
The mystery continues. The Paradise (Oct 23) and Misfits (Oct 28) downloaded once. Downton (Oct 28) downloaded twice. It looks like there is only one more episode in the series.
I am attaching the log and the other two files you requested.
Thank you again for all your help.

I've had the same problem, some tv shows get downloaded twice and others don't start automatically, I have to look for them, what is going on?

Hi emet,
So so so sorry for not having replied sooner, there was a bank holiday last week and I wasn't home almost all week... and as you say, last night was the season finale of Downton Abbey so I'm afraid we're late to finding the solution :( (at least this year)
I've checked the files (thank you!) and it looks like the Downton Abbey subscription is a custom one. Did you unsubscribe and subscribe again like we said? Maybe you accidentally edited the subscription... custom subscriptions show a gear icon over the show cover, so if you see it, you need to do again the unsubscribe-subscribe process (and avoid clicking "edit" and then "save" to make it a custom subscription again).
51 Posted by tvjunky_66 on 06 Nov, 2012 08:27 PM
thank you for your reply. I will try cancelling the subscription and signing up for it again. Hopefully it will fix the issue I'm having with non-functioning subscriptions.
By the way.. unless this is your pet name for me, … I'm not Emet.
Have a great week

Cristina,
It's funny, I've been using TVShows for years and I never knew what the gear icon meant. It must have happened when I copied the feed URL to my RSS reader. I've deleted any feeds with gear icons and I've also checked the "prioritize magnet" checkbox. My other subscriptions are working fine. Again, my thanks for all your help and patience. You've been awesome.
(Hi tvjunky, I think Cristina was replying to my Oct 29 post.)

Hi,
emet, glad we finally found the issue. That's why sometimes I recommend users to unsubscribe and subscribe again. It seems stupid, but it's quite easy to accidentally change a subscription into a custom one, so it's a quick way to rule it out without having the user send the subscriptions file.
tvjunky_66, as emet said, I was replying to him ;) (though the message applies to all users having this issue, sure!)
