Duplicates

TV Show has begun a nasty habit of download duplicates. I routinely wake up to find multiple copies of the same episodes of some shows. This behavior began before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I don't believe it has anything to do with 10.8. It only seems to effect certain episodes. (Naming conventions? I don't know what triggers it.) I wish I simply had a button I could click that says, "Don't download this episode again" or "I already have this episode" so I could stop them manually without turning off the entire subscription.

    Hi Bill,

Does it happen with preset list shows or custom shows? If custom shows, please take a look at this discussion.

If it happens with preset list shows, can you give us some examples and send us the log? (About tab -> View logs, please paste the content into a text file and attach it to the message) This shouldn't happen, but sometimes there are glitches.

Both - but moreover with preset shows. I only have 2 custom shows and one of them is discontinued. Last night alone I deleted 4 duplicates; Franklin & Bash, Rizzoli & Isles, White Collar and Covert Affairs. Here's the log file...

    Hi Bill,

It's really strange, I don't see duplicates in the log from the shows you mention... it's skipping some episodes (for example Covert Affairs 3x02 and 3x03), probably because they didn't appear in the feed, but I only see one log line for each downloaded episode.

Is it possible that some of your custom feeds have episodes from other shows? Please understand that custom shows work differently, as explained in the discussion I previously linked.

    Christina,

Thanks for taking a look at it, but it does not resolve the problem.

I have only 1 custom feed left, "Perspective" (because it's not listed on EZTV yet). This behavior existed before and after adding it - and it happens with virtually every show. I already told you about Franklin & Bash, Rizzoli & Isles, White Collar, and Covert Affairs. I removed them from the main list in iVI, but you can still see them in the Queue. You can also see that Burn Notice and Suits have already been downloaded, converted and added. (Original files are in the trash.) Yet, Transmission has downloaded them again and is seeding.

Fortunately, iVI catches duplicates and doesn't re-encode them. But they continue to download and use bandwidth and disk space. Here is a screen shot:

This usually runs unattended and I empty my trash every couple of weeks. But lately I've been having to stay on top it or my HD fills up with duplicate downloads (which are much larger than the converted copies).

I'll keep an eye on it. In the meantime, please consider adding a, "Don't download" button to episode listings. Besides this bug, it would be useful when you've already seen an episode and don't want to unsubscribe just to skip downloading it again.

    Sincerely, Bill

    Christina,

I have having nothing but crashes trying to add new subscriptions to TV Shows.

I was trying to add "Doc Martin". After several crashes and reboots, I attempted some others. Every try is met with an instant crash of System Preferences, faulting the Plugin Path of TVShows. I've completely rebooted between attempts to rule out residual code. It doesn't matter whether I select a basic subscription or starting from a particular episode.

    Attached is my log file.

    Sincerely, Bill Dawson

    Hi Bill,

The crashing issue is a known issue in Mountain Lion, the newest Mac OS is still unsupported. We are working on a compatible version.

On duplicates, as I said, I don't see anything strange in the log, no duplicates there. Anyway, can you try uninstalling and reinstalling the newest version from scratch? In order to do that, follow these steps:

    1. Backup the folder ~/Library/Application Support/TVShows 2/ (subscriptions) and the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.victorpimentel.TVShows2.plist (preferences)
    2. Empty the trash, if it isn't empty.
    3. Go to the About tab, click the uninstall button.
    4. Open System Preferences (not TVShows PrefPane), if the PrefPane is still here, right click it and remove it.
    5. Download the latest version from our website, and install it (if prompted, select "only for this user").
    6. If everything works, copy the backup of your subscriptions into the Application Support folder and the .plist file to the Preferences folder.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

I am seeing duplicate downloads, too. And it has been happening for a while: I've just manually deleted duplicates. They do show up in the logs. I use presets, and check on "Download HD".
