HD not downloading

Yesterday a new episode of Royal Pains was released and correctly added in the episodes list, but wasn't downloaded by TVShow app which kept saying "Impossible to find and HD torrent for etc..etc..". I had to download it manually this morning.

Is this behavior normal? Today the same thing is happening with The Secret Circle, The Finder, The Vampire Diaries, Person of Interest and The Mentalist: they can only be downloaded in SD quality.

Is there a way to solve this problem or is the software supposed to work this way?

   Hi Andrea,

   This happens because you have the "use additional sources" option checked. It's hard to explain, but TVShows is working as it's supposed to:

   • There are 3 kinds of sources: A sources, B sources and Torrentz. A sources and B sources come from the feed, and they're both uploads to The Pirate Bay from trusted sources. The difference between A sources and B sources is how they upload episodes: A sources only work with .avi and .mkv, and B sources packages them in folders and rars (we consider that the former are better than the latter). Torrentz is a torrent search engine and it's the last resort, there we can't do any user check so from time to time it can lead to downloading bogus files.
   • With the "use additional sources" option unchecked, TVShows will only download content from A sources, except after a timeout if there's a B source available (more info here). In the list, TVShows will only display episodes that are available in the feed, from an A or B source. So it can happen that you see an episode in the list but TVShows isn't downloading it automatically, because it's a B source episode and TVShows is waiting for the timeout (but if you click the arrow you will get the episode instantly, from that B source).
   • With the "use additional sources" option checked, TVShows will download the first available version, be it from an A source, a B source or Torrentz. In the list, TVShows will display any episode available in both SD and HD, even one of them isn't available in the feed. But TVShows will only download the episode when it finds it.

   In the case of Royal Pains (I didn't look at the other ones but I assume they are the same):

   • Episode 3x13 is not available in HD in the feed, so TVShows can only find it in Torrentz.
   • Automatically (with the selected frequency), TVShows performed a search in Torrentz. It didn't download the episode because it didn't find it.
   • Manually, you clicked the arrow button and forced that search in Torrentz. You did that yesterday and TVShows did not find anything, you did that again today and there was the episode so it downloaded it.

   I hope I clarified it somehow, as I said, it's quite difficult to explain.
