shows updates?

I didn't seem to be getting shows updates or was getting them erratically. I removed the db's and tried to retrieve the update and it just hourglasses. This has been happening for two days. Is there an issue on that end or should I be doing something else? I've tried removing all related files from the system and re-installing which did not help.
