adding new subscription for existing show only downloads latest episode

If I add a new show subscription, then select the first episode under, "Start subscription with: This episode", it only downloads the latest episode and doesn't download any previous episodes, including the one I selected.

I think it's done this for a while and on both 10.8 and 10.9.
