Downloading MKV files where I haven't selected ANY HD sources

I have switched from another downloaded, but your parser isn't great. I'm now getting 720p 1.3GB MKV files, and I want the normal 480p 250-350MB mp4 files. Why are you downloading it in HD, when I haven't selected that for ANY of the shows?

Also, is it possible to BLOCK MKV. I just have to convert them to MP4 anyway, so why download MKV in the first place. If I want to download it in MKV, I can always do that manually.

Also, most of the new shows downloaded, were existing show episodes that I already have, so TV Shows 2 downloaded HD versions of existing episodes, and these HD one were NOT the latest but the one from last week. Ugh.

    Hi John,

It would help if you'd provide more information... You say you switched from another "downloaded" (another TV shows downloading app, I suppose), but unless you upgraded from a previous version of TVShows, that must mean that you added all your shows to TVShows. In this case, how can TVShows know what episodes do you already have? Usually when you subscribe to a new show you can tell it to start from the next aired episode, or choose a specific episode to start from.

Are you sure you didn't select HD? Maybe you didn't select anything but it was already selected (by default)? Can you send us a screenshot from your subscriptions window and the log (About tab -> View logs, please paste the content into a text file and attach it to the message), and give us some examples of shows downloaded in HD so we can take a look?

I suppose you're referring to shows from the preset list... custom feed subscriptions work differently regarding SD, HD and episode downloading.

    Hi Christina

No I moved from Automatic app. I added all the shows manually. None of them are in HD, as you have to enable that by hand, since its not the default. I added all the shows to download the latest episode only, except one. I added all the shows, that was yesterday and only a new show downloaded two episodes, since that was the only one I flagged to download "this episode from #1". After a day, today, TV shows downloaded 7 shows but it didn't download the new episode, it downloaded last weeks episode (which is before the "latest episode") point and all in MTV HD.

Actually I've moved to using "ShowRSS" together with "Catch". Works great!

    Hi John,

Are you looking for help or just some relieve? I cannot help you if you don't provide the information I asked for. But I guess if you moved on to another app 3 hours after posting your first message, then you don't need help anymore.

    Hi Christina

I was looking for help as the App obviously needs some work, however after some research, trial and error and tweaks, I came across an entirely new solution. I was just impatient, and quite a good self starter. I also like to give feedback to devs, most seem to appreciate it to improve their apps. I'm the kinda guy who runs into all the bugs, you know the debugger.

I guess you don't need any help either.

    Hi John,

As I told you, this is not the standard behavior of the app, so it's obviously some bug (or some misconfiguration on your part), that's why I asked for the log and the screenshot. That would have been feedback. "It doesn't work" isn't, because it doesn't help the dev solve anything. One would think a debugger already knew that...

I was still going to get back home to my computer where the problem lies, and then send you the logs and screenshot. In post #4 I explained to you in detail the steps I took. My question was around why TVShows was downloading MKV high-res files, AND about why it was downloading shows that was BEFORE the marker point. E.g. when you add a show and it states, that episode 3 has aired and the next episode would be 4, why would the app then go and download episode 3 (the episode in the past). Of course TV Shows should know what episode I've downloaded, because I configured it to download only future episode, not episodes from the past. That's what it says on the config screen when you add the series. All the series were adding with the default settings (Not HD, only FUTURE shows).

Perhaps you meant you need a screenshot of a single subscription, e.g.

    On 4/5 July it downloaded the episodes for TeenWolf S03E03 720p, Royal.Pains.S05E03.720p, Burn.Notice.S07E03.720p, The.Glades.S04E05.720p, Warehouse.13.S04E18.720p...

These were all scheduled for the previous week, not actually for the 4/5 July. That would have been the next-next episodes.

    Hi John,

Now, that's helping. I now you explained the steps you took, but without the log and the examples I couldn't know if there was a problem in our feeds, in your configuration, in the app...

One thing I didn't explain (although it is explained in our knowledge base and our blog) is that TVShows usually downloads the episodes in your preferred setting (SD in your case), but sometimes the episode isn't available in that quality, or it is but long after the other one is (it usually happens when people want HD, it's usually released later than SD, but sometimes it happens the other way around), so TVShows has a timeout after which it downloads any available version. This timeout is by default 18 hours, but you can make it longer if you would prefer to wait for the SD version, please read here.

Anyway, after looking at your log and the feeds I thing this is a one time issue, caused by a weird bug and a "bad timing" on your subscription (I'm not saying you did something wrong, it's just a bad coincidence). Those past episodes TVShows downloaded in HD were released after you subscribed to those shows, so TVShows took them as new (that's the bug, since you told it you already had those episodes when you subscribed "from the next aired episode"). It shouldn't happen from now on, because TVShows will download the SD version and then skip the HD version (except when the SD version isn't available, as I explained).

I'll add this to the developer queue so he can take a look when he can. In the meantime, if you keep TVShows on, next week you could confirm if it only downloads the SD version as it should.
