Trying to reinstall

Hi there,

I've been trying to fix a bug in my app - it gets stuck on 'Updating Show Information' whenever I try to subscribe to a new show. It won't even let me exit out of system preference.

I've tried to follow the advice of uninstalling the app and reinstalling it however, after clicking through uninstall I cannot for the life of my remove the icon from the Preference Pane to complete the process. When I right-click to remove it says "An error has occurred" and when I try to find the PrefPane in the Library folder it's not there!

Any suggestions on how to complete the uninstall - or better yet, a quick fix for unfreezing 'Updating Show Information' - would be much appreciated!!

    Hi Ellie,

Sorry you're having trouble with TVShows. The "updating show information" should unfreeze eventually, it's strange that it doesn't.

Let's reinstall from scratch, in order to do that please follow these steps:

    1. If you want to backup your subscriptions and settings, copy the folder ~/Library/Application Support/TVShows 2/ and the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.victorpimentel.TVShows2.plist
    2. Empty the trash, if it isn't empty.
    3. Go to the About tab, click the uninstall button.
    4. Open System Preferences (not TVShows PrefPane), if the PrefPane is still there, right click it and remove it. Please let me know if this still gives you the error.
    5. Download the latest version from our website: http://tvshowsapp.com/TVShows.zip , and install it (if prompted, select "only for this user").
    6. Check if the "updating show information" gets the showlist (if it still freezes, let it rest for a while and try again). If everythig works fine, copy the backup of your subscriptions into the Application Support folder and the .plist file to the Preferences folder.

    Hi Cristina,

Thank so much for the reply. Unfortunately I'm still getting the error message in System Preferences when I try to remove the TV Shows PrefPane. I can't seem to fully uninstall the app with this still showing up.

I can access all the shows I'm already subscribed to, I just can't get any new ones. My automatic download has also seemed to have stopped, so I have to download new shows manually/individually.

    Hi Ellie,

So sorry for the late reply. If you're still having this issue, please open a Terminal window and type in the following command:

    launchctl unload ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.victorpimentel.TVShowsHelper.plist

If it doesn't give you any error, then you should be able to remove the PrefPane. If not, please comment here with the result.

    Hi Cristina,

Not a worry, many thanks for your response.

I got the following error message in Terminal:

    launchctl unload
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.victorpimentel.TVShowsHelper.plist
Last login: Sat Jun 8 11:10:47 on console
    192-168-1-2:~ negativeink$ launchctl unload
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.victorpimentel.TVShowsHelper.plist
    launchctl: Error unloading: com.victorpimentel.TVShowsHelper
    192-168-1-2:~ negativeink$

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Ellie,

I'm afraid we've reached the limit of my technical knowledge, it doesn't let you manually stop the background process but the error isn't helpful ("error unloading" :S)... I'll assign this to the developer so he can take further action... again, so sorry for the late reply and not having been of much help.
