closing preference pane quits tv shows

when i start tv shows via the preference pane, it starts up and all is well. an icon appears in my taskbar also. when i close the pref pane, the icon also vanishes from my task bar and nothing seems to happen. when i open tvshows again via the preference pane, it starts running again and looks for shows. i am confused why this happens. i am running Lion.

thanks. the old version did not give me this version. any suggestions?

watching it more closely, it seems after a minute or so of enabling tv shows and getting the icon in my top taskbar, the icon vanishes after a minute and it doesn't appear to download anything as when i start it again, it starts looking for shows.

Hi Rae,

That is a mess :P It seems that you have some custom feeds from "thebox" that are not valid because instead of linking to the file, they link to an HTML page with the details of the torrent. So they are not downloaded correctly.

Also, it seems that you installed an old version, then the new one, then I don't know what happened.

Maybe you could uninstall the application and re-install it (just store the ~/Library/Application Support/TVShows 2/Subscriptions file before uninstalling to keep all your subscriptions), I don't know what else you can do.

i have uninstalled the old versions and they no longer show. but when i try to uninstall the current version, it lets me uninstall it via the system preferences pref pane, but then when i search for it with spotlight it still shows as being there. is there a another way using terminal or such i can remove it? thanks.

In order to successfully uninstall TVShows, the Trash folder must be empty. Then click the uninstall button in the About tab, and finally, open System Preferences (not the PrefPane) and if it's still there, you can safely remove it (right click -> delete).

hi guys, thanks for all your advice so far. i successfully removed all the versions of TVShows from my machine and then did a install again. I still get the same problem of it starts up then the icon vanishes from my menu bar and it doesn't seem to get any new shows unless i start it again.

i have enclosed a new log, hopefully this can help you. i am running a 2011 mac mini with osx lion.

The first message is at 9:20h and the last one at 9:31h, we can't see anything strange in this little time (*). Can you send us the updated log since it's been two days now (sorry for the delayed response)?

(*) We do see what Victor told you earlier, there are some attempts to download the HTML page with the details of the torrent, so they are not downloaded correctly. It seems this happens with the Pawn Stars feed. Can you check that subscription?

don't worry about the delay, I'm grateful for the support. I'll unsubscribe from feeds I've made myself then let it run for a few days and then update you with a log from there. many thanks!
