HiDPI Mode on a 1080p TV cutting off parts of the TVShows UI

Hi,

I run a Mac mini connected to my TV, and have set OS X to use HiDPI mode (standard in Mountain Lion, also available via Quartz Debug in earlier versions). This lets you run the TV at an effective pixel size of 960×540, while quadrupling the resolution of onscreen elements, making things easier to read from across the room.

Unfortunately it also means that any UI elements that occur more than 540 pixels from the top of the screen are cut off, and rendered inaccessible since you can’t move the top of the window any higher than the menubar. This makes the “Add Show” button and others down there impossible to access without going and switching the resolution, using them, and then switching back.

From the attached screenshot, you can see that it looks like the window could be made flexible to this height, by bringing the bottom of the panel up to a maximum tallness of the screen, and just make the “Subscriptions” area scrollable. However, maybe System Preference panes are more restricted in this regard (not all of Apple’s own prefpanes fit in this resolution either).

    Hi Ross,

As you guessed, System Preferences prefpanes have restrictions in dimensions. I'm afraid we can't do anything about it until we release version 3.0, which will not be a PrefPane anymore. Please note that version 3.0 is still in an early developing state and there's no ETA yet.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
